AKAMAI - Border Collies

There have been many much loved collies over the years but bringing us up to date, currently we have 4 Border Collies but this is planned to expand a little in the near future.

Formally under the Affix of Collali we have been breeding Border collies since the early 1980's.  Our first Border collie Mointeach Leika worked in obedience at test 'C' and produced several memorable litters - perhaps the most famous being the first litter that produced the most superb Obedience Champion Collali Rocky (Sandy Wadhams' Ricky who was the top obedience dog in the UK in 1991 and 1992.

Smudge - Smudge is currently the oldest he came to us in 1990 as a rescue from a farm in Wales.  A handsome Blue Merle and cover star of the first edition of Happy Dogs Happy Winners, Smudge has been a successful demonstration dog over the years but now mostly enjoys his retirement making only the occasional appearance. Smudge has not been bred from due to his uncertain background.

Dazzle (Moel Daz at Akamai) DOB 18/10/96

Daz was bred by Ceri Rundle (nee Jones) and comes from a line of quality actively working sheepdogs including Bwlch Hemp, Bwlch Taff and Wiston Cap.  Dazzle is a delightful bitch full of love and affection.  She is bright and clever. Dazzle forms the foundation of our current stock along with Topper below.

Daz has produced some great pups with the sire best of breed winner Tanamerye Kris Moss (Topper) owned by Janet Matthews.  Topper is the son of Janet's Obedience Champion Charouska Kris Moss (Rookie) from a line of obedience dogs including Obedience Champion Morena Moss of Maradonar, Obedience Champion Canasta Replay, Obedience Champion Harberdown Kerry and Obedience Champion Gerrard Gemmas Lad.

Sadly Topper passed away early 2007.

Fizz (Akamai Frosted Fizz) DOB 16/01/01

Fizz is a super bitch (daughter of Dazzle and Topper) - very loving, quite sensitive and great to work with.  She was a little slow maturing but now loves to work.

Fizz's first public debut was made in style when she was involved in an obedience demonstration to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee in 2002.

Fizz was mated to Marie Jordan's Border Collie Laetare Music Coda from Jakovall CDex, UDex (Skew).

Skew and Fizz produced 5 super puppies on October 15th 2004. All 5 went to working homes. A reunion was held at the centre on the pup’s first birthday – it was great to see them all together again and all doing well and some pups from previous litters also came along – what a great day!

    J Litter (DOB 23/05/07 (8 Puppies))

Akamai Frosted Fizz had a change of partner for 2007. The very handsome Tamarsh Taz owned by Pam Ryalls. Taz is a gorgeous dog, full of promise work wise and absolutely stunning to look at. He is a traditionally marked black and white, well boned and well bred. He comes from a background of Wizaland, Borderfame and has numerous show champions in his pedigree. Due to her own maternal duties Pam hasn’t had time to get him in the obedience ring yet, but his work is mouthwatering.

May 23rd 2007 saw the arrival of 8 lovely pups!

(Photo left - Fizz and puppies)

Akamai Just Jez (Jez) Jez was born when folk artist Jez Lowe was playing on the radio, and I said ‘You must be Jez then’. I did not intend to keep him and had interest in him, but the sales did not happen (not due to any problem with the pup – just circumstances of prospective owners), meanwhile he was working his way under my skin I decided to keep him and the name stuck. He is a super temperament, loving, biddable, keen, and enthusiastic – everything you could want in a working dog – he has started his training for competitive obedience, but had to take a year out due to me contracting meningitis during 2008. He began competing in the spring of 2009. He won his first Novice at Wakefield 31.08.09.

    (Photo left - Jez)
(Photo below left - Jez's first red rosette - Novice at Wakefield 2009)

Akamai Just Jerolo (Rolo) – Rolo now lives with his older brother Akamai High Spirits (Krieger) and owner Pat Thompson. He is first and foremost a family pet to Pat and her 4 children, but he has also started his training for competitive obedience.

Akamai Just Jewel (Izzy) – Stud dog owner Pam decided that this pup was just too good to miss. Izzy is a perfectly marked very livley dog, with bags of attitude.  She has started training for competitive obedience.

Akamai Just Jovita (Jovi) – Jovi has gone to a lovely lady (Val Dickeson) who is keen to work her in obedience. Rumour has it that the she has caused quite a few heads to turn already! She should be in the ring in 2009.

    (Photo  left - Jovi)

Akamai Just Jalina (Casie)Casie originally went to Pete Collier to enjoy a life of obedience training – sadly Pete became seriously ill quite unexpectedly and was unable to continue offering Casie the life she needed. So Casie came back to us to await a new home – we were delighted to find Gary Stratton, a keen dog lover and previous Border collie owner with an interest in dog training. Gary and Casie are proving to be a great team and are developing a super relationship and are enjoying continuing with the training that Pete started. They have been attending classes both local to them and here at our centre and are looking forward to getting involved in competitive obedience in the future.

    (Photo  left - Casie)

Akamai Just Jacinta (Tilly) – Stephen Johnson and family fell in love with Tilly – she has been going to training classes and is doing well. Tilly has been through beginners and intermediate dog training classes, which she passed with flying colours and is now near the end of a beginner's flyball training course.

Akamai Just Jiggy (Cassie) – Cassie is now with Graham Hatton and family – and is enjoying an active life. Graham says ‘Cassie is absolutely brilliant!!! We could not have wished for a better dog’.

    (Photo  left - Cassie)

    And Finally…

Akamai Just Jasmine (Flossie) We had some concerns about Flossie, when she was born she was very small so she was withdrawn from sale to give us time to assess her – we were concerned unduly – she has turned into a super strong bitch.
During her time with us she did some great work with our students at Haxey Study Centre, but she has now gone to a lovely understanding permanent local home with Julie and an older Border collie companion Moss. Julie is going to keep up with the training and come to classes with us along side her horse shows which Flossie loves to attend.

K Litter planned for early 2009/10 (Fingers Crossed!!)
